Teaching your child about the alphabet and the letter A is an exciting time. One fun idea is to study one letter a week until your child has learned the entire alphabet. 

Start off with introducing your kid to the concept of A is for…

  • A is for Apple
  • A is for Alligator
  • A is for Airplane
  • A is for Ape
  • A is for Art
  • A is for Activity
  • A is for Angel

You can use these ideas to make crafts or collages. Browse through old magazines looking for pictures of things that start with the letter A. Cut the pictures out and paste them on a piece of paper to hang in your kitchen.

After the week is done, 3-hole punch the pictures and place them in a binder. After 26 weeks, your child will have created their very own alphabet book!

Sensory Letter Learning

A few other ideas you can try is to use playdough to learn the letter A. Roll the playdough flat and use a toothpick to write a lower case and upper case A in the playdough. You can also roll the playdough into long snakes and use the snakes to form the letter A as well.

Pour sand onto a tray and write the letter A in the sand. Also, pick up magnetic letters and have your child practice finding the letter A on the fridge. By the end of the week, your little one will have mastered the letter A and will be ready to move on and learn another letter of the alphabet.
