Alongside famous artists like Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, and Paul Cézanne, the impressionist movement was born around 1862.
Monet, before becoming a painter, was a popular caricaturist of locals.
Everyone has to start somewhere right?
Over his lifetime, Monet was inspired by Japanese art. His painting is considered some of the most famous of the 19th century.
Several of his paintings featured his wife Camille Doncieux including Woman in the Garden and The Woman in the Green Dress. He even painted her in her death bed – weird right?!
A unique facet of Monet’s work is the way experimented with light. He used a feel of time-lapse in some of his paintings.
He would masterfully complete a painting multiple times in order to capture every type of light on it.
Today his work is worth millions (20 million pounds, in fact).
The most fun thing about studying Monet is that his art is fun for kids to try and replicate. Kids can easily try out his artwork like the painting Water Lilies.
Speaking of water lilies, Monet absolutely loved flowers and painted many of them throughout his lifetime.
Check out some art projects and activities below and be inspired on how kids can not only study Monet but learn to paint a little like him as well.
