Making Christmas paper crafts during the holidays are always a WIN. There is no doubt that Christmas is one of my family’s very favorite holidays of the year. Let’s make the most out of it in our homeschool with these fun, hands-on Christmas paper craft activities for kids.
Can you imagine a world without crafts?
That would be no color to your homeschool days. There would be no hands-on activities for your students to create and explore. Could any homeschooling family deal with that?
I think that would create a dull educational experience. Even the un-artsiest moms can throw in a craft here and there to liven up any homeschool day.
Why are crafts good for kids?
Whether we like crafts with our kids or not, it doesn’t diminish the idea that crafts are good for them. Besides crafts breaking up the monotony of the homeschool day, crafts are beneficial for our children.
Crafts are beneficial for child development.
- Fine motor skill development – Painting, gluing, cutting, and coloring all help a child use the small muscles in their hands.
- Literacy skills improvement – Crafts assist students with speaking, reading, following directions, listening, and understanding.
- Building creativity – Crafts ask kids to follow directions, yet they still allow for a child to make the craft their own. Crafts allow opportunities for self-expression, creative thinking, and even problem-solving.
- Building Confidence – Completing crafts encourages a child’s self-esteem. Children have a sense of confidence in finishing what they started and doing it well.
- Build relationships – When you help your child with a craft or their older siblings help, younger children understand that relationships are essential.
De-Stress by Crafting
There is no doubt that crafts make us happy. An American study of 39 adults placed them in a studio with paper, clay, collage, and pens. They were then asked to create whatever they wanted. Before the study, all the participants were tested for the level of the stress hormone cortisol. After 45 minutes of working on the craft creations, 75 percent of the participants had significantly lower cortisol – stress levels (WomansWorld).
There are way more studies about crafting having a positive effect on people and even making them happy. That is why crafting makes a great addition to Christmas time in your home.
The holiday season is joyous for many. However, it also can be highly stressful. So cutting back some on academics and adding some crafting activities in the holidays can help your kids and YOU combat the stressors that the days may bring. The Christmas paper crafts below can help.
