Learning about shapes is fun as a kid – and once you learn what they are, you can spot them everywhere! Help your kids learn about eight different 2D shapes, where they happen in real life, and what it means to be symmetrical with this FREE Learning About Shapes Activity.
There are shapes all around us! From squares and circles to hexagons and octagons, the world is full of shapes. Help your young learners understand what makes each shape unique and how to spot them with this FREE Learning About Shapes Activity.
Kids can learn about eight shapes in this unit:
- square
- rectangle
- circle
- oval
- triangle
- pentagon
- hexagon
- octagon
For each shape, they’ll get to trace the shape, trace the letters that spell the name of the shape, read an explanation of what makes that shape unique (such as a square has four right angles and four sides all the same length), and trace keywords in the explanation.
Next, they can color pictures of places they might see these shapes and trace the names of the objects.
Finally, they can have fun with an activity that explains what symmetry is and has them trace and then draw half of each shape they learned about to show the symmetry.
It’s an easy, no-prep way to help your kids learn shapes!
