If you are have been researching math books, you may have heard of Life of Fred. There are a lot of books in the Life of Fred series so we have put together a list of the Life of Fred books in order so you will know where to start your kids in this series.
23 Math Life of Fred Books in Order (K-12 Series)
There are a total of 23 Life of Fred books designed to help your children learn math skills through word problems and fun stories. There is an elementary series, intermediate series, junior high and high school level books along with a stand alone financial course.

What are the Life of Fred Math Books?
Life of Fred Math is an unconventional series of math texts designed by math professor Dr. Schmidt. These books take a creative approach to tackling math lessons in a very unique way. Math concepts are presented by reading through a story.
Follow the zany adventures of Fred’s life. Fred Gauss a child prodigy math genius who encounters the need for mathematics everywhere he goes. There are fun word problems and math problems for your children to solve at the end of each chapter.
There are quizzes and review built into the books. Most of the books have solutions in them, while the higher levels may have separate answer keys or companion books that you can purchase.
Is Life of Fred religious?
Life of Fred is not considered a Christian curriculum, though the author Dr. Stanley F. Schmidt is a Christian. The religious references in the books are very minimal. Fred says his prayers and attends church regularly.
Many secular homeschoolers use these books and have no problem with the content that is included in the stories. They are highly recommended from many homeschool families regardless of their religious affiliation.
Is Life of Fred Common Core aligned?
Life of Fred is NOT Common Core math. It was designed and created before Common Core math and follows it’s own scope and sequence. The math is taught much differently than schools teach math, and some concepts are introduced much earlier than school introduce them.
Is Life of Fred a complete curriculum?
Life of Fred math is considered a complete math curriculum if you use all of the books in each series. Many homeschoolers like to use these to supplement their math programs, but they can really be used as a complete curriculum.
The books are written directly to the child. You can read them with your child, or they can work on them independently. There is no extra prep work needed to prepare their lessons!
Each book is a non-consumable textbook so it can be used over and over with different children. Your children can have their own notebook to write their answers in. This will save you a lot of money if you have multiple children as you will only need paper or a notebook for your next child!
Homeschool families love that these books make math fun. They are not dry or boring like some other math textbooks. Children that struggle with textbooks find these books hilarious and engaging.

Life of Fred Books in Order
You may be wondering in which order to start the books in the series. These books are best read in chronological order as it follows Fred’s life and stories build upon each other. However, you can start at the beginning of each series if your child understand the concepts, regardless of what grade level they are in.
Elementary Math
The Life of Fred Elementary Books are designed for grades 1-4. The books in this series are listed in alphabetical order and progress as you read them. The first book in the Life of Fred elementary series is Apples.
You can begin teaching with Apples once your child knows basic addition and subtraction facts up to 10. Each book after Apples is a prerequisite for the next book.

Intermediate Math
There are three intermediate books in the Life of Fred intermediate series. These are designed for grades 4-6. It is recommended to complete Life of Fred: Ice Cream before starting the books in the intermediate series.
If your student has not done the books in the elementary series, the prerequisite is that your student can add, subtract and has an understanding of multiplication and division.

Pre-High School Math
These books are geared for junior high and middle school students in grades 6-8. They cover many different topics including science and economics while learning math. These books will well prepare your students for high school math.

16. Life of Fred: Pre-Algebra 0 With Physics
17. Life of Fred: Pre-Algebra 1 with Biology

Zillions of Practice Problems is a companion book that can be purchased separately for this level if your child needs extra drills and practice math problems.
High School Math
In the High School Math series, Fred is preparing to go to college and needs to learn math at the upper levels. Each book is a one year high school math credit that will help prepare your students for college. It is designed for grades 9 -12.
Some adults have been known to use these books to help prepare them for college math courses.

Stand Alone Finance Course
Life of Fred: Financial Choices is a stand alone finance course designed for 10th graders on up. There aren’t many math books that offer a personal finance course, and this is a a great option for parents to prepare their high school students for financial literacy in the real world.
