Do you want to get your kids away from the tablet and onto creating something cool? These 8 unique oil pastel techniques will be great to get your kids focused on creating art and bringing colors to life. The oil pastels are really versatile to work with, are bright and beautiful. I love to save my children’s oil pastel coloring work and place them around my desk. They brighten up my work area and give me little reminders of them throughout the day.
I love that Kitchen Table Classroom’s post stated that, “anything a crayon can do an oil pastel could do better.” I was thinking the same thing. Oil pastels are vibrant and smooth. I wish I could tell you some of the techniques in this article but I don’t want to spoil the surprise. I do want to share something with you.
Using these colors is different from using regular crayons. I find myself drawing with them right along with my kid. I find coloring with them calming. As adults, we often think about God’s Word where it tells us to put away childish things. Therefore, we think we need to stop doing things that brought us joy as a child like playing outside, joking around, or even drawing.
I have found that drawing with my kids helps me take my mind off of the mom-stress and just helps me spend a few minutes enjoying something with my kids. They really love when I take a few minutes to color with them. I hope these techniques can give you some ideas to share with your kids in using oil pastels, but more so… I hope you get right in there and join them.
