So many years, December rolls around and instead of looking forward to family time and making memories, I’m rushing too much to slow down and enjoy the season.

That’s why this year, I decided to get really intentional about simplifying our holiday plans. So I created this free 31 days of outdoor Christmas fun calendar. You’ll find a link to it at the bottom of this post.

Why a Simple Christmas?

I loved Christmas as a child. It was fun, and it was simple.

However, as an adult, it seems to me that the season has become increasingly marked by commercialism and craziness. And messages that don’t reflect the Christian nature of the holiday that I want my children to understand.

So this year, I decided to return to the simple Christmas activities I used to love. To remind myself of the holiday traditions that reflect my family’s values. And that includes focusing on sharing outdoor Christmas fun with my youngest children.

Find Easy Ways to Make Christmas Memories

Now don’t get me wrong. We’ll still celebrate Christmas. We’ll hang stockings, read old-fashioned Christmas books, share handmade pioneer Christmas gifts, and watch old Christmas movies like It’s a Wonderful Life.

However, I’m looking for easier ways to make Christmas memories. To save time and effort, and yes, energy. With everything we’ve had to deal with this year, this homeschool mama needs a break too!

Yet this year, in addition to making a point of enjoying outdoor Christmas fun,  I’m also replacing my more elaborate holiday baking and Christmas crafting with some simple indoor Christmas activities that take less than 30 minutes each. These are based on some of my favorite childhood memories.

Plan Outdoor Christmas Fun in The City or Country

So if you’ve been following my posts here on Homeschool Giveaways for the past couple of years, you know we homeschool and homestead off the grid. So yes, we live very far away from “civilization.” Actually, we’re about 250 miles south of the Arctic Circle.

So our outdoor Christmas fun can include things that city or suburban homeschool families might not get a chance to try. However, I KNOW there are a ton of ways to get together outdoors even in the city. Even in 2020, when our holiday season looks very different from all the others.

Use this calendar along with your Christmas planner to schedule time together for outdoor holiday activities. And don’t forget to print off your outdoor time tracker as well!

Some of our favorite simple outdoor activities have included things like

Winter weather makes it all too easy to stay indoors all day. Yet as the experts say, we all need outdoor time each and every day. Even the youngest among us. So use this calendar to plan out some fun outdoor Christmas activities you and your family can enjoy together. Remember, it doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive.

So head over to An Off Grid Life and grab your calendar right now!
