Winter is a wonderful time to slow down and explore science and nature together. Studying ice and snow in your homeschool opens the door to hands on learning through simple experiments, seasonal printables, living books, and creative activities. This collection of free ice and snow resources grew out of our own homeschool experience and the joy of learning together during the winter months.

How Ice and Snow Became a Winter Study in Our Homeschool
Although we are traveling in the south this winter, my kids have loved living further north where we got plenty of snow. They loved playing in the snow, building forts, snowmen, and having snowball fights too. Even if they could not be outside for long, they made the most of their time.
A couple of years ago we started doing more unschooling and using the weather and our children’s interests to guide our studies. So each winter we studied about ice and snow. We did fun printables, made snow ice cream (their favorite), and even did a few crafts.
Even while living in the south, winter felt like the perfect time to do a fun study on ice and snow. Whether your kids have experienced snow firsthand or are simply curious about winter weather, they will love learning more about ice and snow with these FREE printables, science experiments, and more!
Below you will find our favorite free printables, hands on activities, books, and science ideas for studying ice and snow with your kids.
