I am always looking for ways to mix things up in our homeschool, an excuse to ditch the textbook to focus on other things that may be a priority at the time. Holidays and seasons are a great way to help your kids write casually, without a lot of pressure on their shoulders. Have you ever thought about assigning writing prompts for Mother’s Day?
I enjoy assigning my children writing prompts for the different holidays. It gives us a little break from the everyday, and helps them to focus on what is going on around us at the time and to think out of the box.
If you are a homeschool mom, it might feel a little funny to assign your children something to write specifically about you for Mother’s Day. Right now, in the time that we are living in, I don’t think it would be weird to give your children some writing prompts to work on for Mother’s Day.
Writing Prompts can be a creative, yet inexpensive, Mother’s Day Gift Idea:
My youngest is nine years old. She is so precious and sweet, always giving, and thinking of others. Let me tell you, she hasn’t been out of the house since the middle of March. She is so concerned about what present she is going to get me for Mother’s Day since she can’t go out shopping right now!
She keeps asking me everyday about what I want for Mother’s Day. I am seeing her get all concerned trying to figure out how she can make that happen when she “can’t go to the store”. I told her she could tell her Daddy what she wanted and he could maybe go get it for me, but it just isn’t the same for her.
So, I have been thinking about giving her an assignment instead. She can make me a Mother’s Day gift, but I can turn it into an educational assignment at the same time. Since we are doing more relaxed, lighter school days right now, a writing prompt assignment for Mother’s Day could be a great gift idea for her. I was thinking of giving her a few different ones to choose from. There she can pick her favorite ones and create a card, or letter, or even a little homemade book of writing prompts. Then she could get with her other siblings and her dad to give them to me for Mother’s Day.
