Penguins are such adorable little creatures. We have some African penguins at our zoo here in Florida. We can spend so much time watching them swim and waddle around.
If you like to do seasonal unit studies, penguins are fun to learn about during the winter time. Since they live in such a cold climate normally, winter is a great time to do a themed unit on these fascinating animals.
Penguins are amazing birds because they can live in extreme temperatures, and live mostly in water. God created their unique bodies to withstand intense below freezing temperatures, and to survive them. They are also absolutely adorable in their tuxedo bodies. I never knew much about these unique birds until I was a homeschool mom.
Our homeschool group went on a field trip to go see the movie March of the Penguins. I was blown away by all that the penguins went through to hatch an egg. I didn’t even know that the dads were the ones to stay home, nurture and protect the egg the entire time.
I was always bored to death by documentaries when I was a child, and I usually fell asleep through them. This was the first documentary I saw that held my attention the whole time. I definitely recommend watching it as a family if you are doing a study on penguins. You also can’t beat Morgan Freeman’s soothing voice!
