From the tiny dung beetle to the majestic bison, the prairies and steppes are teeming with life of countless sizes, shapes, and colors. Help your kids learn more about 33 of these animals and sharpen their independent research skills with this FREE Prairie Animals Notebooking Unit.

An animal standing on grass

I remember the first time I saw the prairie. There were miles and miles of corn for as far as the eye could see. What I couldn’t see at that quick glance was the amazing world of plants and animals that the prairie supports. This FREE Prairie Animals Notebooking Unit gives students a chance to dive in and learn about 33 different kinds of animals that make their homes in prairies or steppes in various parts of the world.

Notebooking is a great tool to help your kids take ownership of what they are learning by creating a unique project of their own. They can research and record:

  • what country or countries each animal is found in
  • the type or types of climates you can find each animal in
  • the animal’s physical description
  • other interesting facts about the animal

You can have them find the countries on a map that each animal lives in to add some geography to your science unit!

They’ll learn about 33 different animals including:

  • American kestrel
  • anteater
  • antelope
  • armadillo
  • Bactrian camel
  • badger
  • bison
