If you asked my children what their favorite subject was they would tell you that it was Nature study. We love nature studies so much that there have been some years we used them as a full science curriculum!

If you love the outdoors and being in nature, or you are a Charlotte Mason style homeschooler, then you most definitely will want to start incorporating nature studies into your homeschool days. I love to find nature studies that can easily go with the different seasons we are in. It is much easier to find and explore things when you are focusing on specific plants that grow in certain seasons.

Spring and Summer is the perfect time to find flowers out in nature, or even in your local garden center! We love attending butterfly gardens, botanical gardens and the zoo in the spring, so those are great places to examine flowers as well.

Here is a complete list of state flowers in full color photographs from State Symbols USA.

Wildflower Information Coloring Pages from the USDA Forest Service. There are 44 different coloring pages with detailed information on each wildflower. These would be great for a science/nature notebook.

Backyard Nature has an entire page of information on different flower types. When you click the flower you want to learn more about it will take you to that flower’s page with detailed information and photos of the flower.

Wildflowers in Bloom is an online photo album that contains images of many of the most showy wildflowers. Click on the flower and it will send you to a page that shows pictures of the plants in their seedling stage, a map of the U. S. showing their distribution range, and other useful information regarding planting and growing the wildflowers.

Wildflowers of the United States has a huge list of wildflower resources and state guides.
