Many young ones donʻt know that not all places have seasons like the United States does. These free resources about seasons will help you celebrate the seasons with your students.
I grew up in New York and experienced the seasons every year of my childhood. Now that I live on an island in the South Pacific, I do not experience seasons here.
We walked to school in the crisp fall, the freezing winters, and the warm spring. Then we were able to enjoy the hot the summer days while on school break.
Fall is a season that I miss the most. Maybe it’s because I see it as an introduction to the holiday season, like an unveiling almost.
It’s the red heavy curtain that goes up on a much-anticipated play. Every year it was the same. Fall harvests began, then Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year.
Pumpkins spice lattes and crisp color-changing leaves were the beginning of my happy season. I miss it so much. September through December atmosphere in a land of seasons were my favorite.
This is why I choose to make sure my children learn about and enjoy the seasons in whatever way they can.
It can be difficult to explain how seasons come to be. Explaining how 365 days is what it takes for seasons to come back around and it’s all due to the earth’s rotation around the sun 93 million miles away.
Yet, it is important to help kids understand and also learn that in other parts of the world seasons are different.
For instance, I live in a tropical island in the Southern Hemisphere. Our weather is almost the opposite of America. Yet, it only has two seasons – rainy and dry season. Our hot months
“summer” are December through February and our cool months “winter” are September and October.
Although we can wear a sweater during the cooler months, the seasons still remain dry or rainy. That’s it.
Summer is a warm-season because the days are longer and the Sun is high in the sky. Winter is a cold season because the days are shorter and the Sun is low in the sky.
Now let me provide some resources to explore for the seasons in the Northern Hemisphere.

There is no doubt I miss the seasons in my life. However, I do embrace where the Lord has brought me at this time in my life.
The Lord mentions the seasons often in the Bible. I will leave you with a few verses to know just how important they were to the Lord for us to learn about:
Psalm 104:19 (ESV) – He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting.
Genesis 1:14 (ESV) – And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years
Daniel 2:21 (ESV) – He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;
Acts 1:7 (ESV) – He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.
