Writing prompts are a great way to help a child practice their writing skills. It also helps them to gain some interest in writing. This is especially true if they are allowed to choose their topic from a list of different topics. Many children may get frustrated with writing, because they are unsure of what to write. This is not an uncommon problem. No one wants to sit and stare at a blank page in frustration.
Other children may not enjoy the writing assignments that are in their Language Arts Curriculum or need a change of pace. For these children that get bored and frustrated easily, I like to give them options by using writing prompts. I like to assign a new writing prompt each week as a break from our normal scheduled writing assignment. It really seems to help take the pressure of staring at a blank page away from them. Some of these writing prompts can be so much fun, that your children won’t even realize they are doing something educational! Creative Writing Prompts can also help your children to become better writers which is so important.
Since I like to assign our writing prompts I am always on the hunt for fun themed ones. My children have grown to expect that I will pull one out that is themed to a special holiday or season that is coming up. You can pull one out when you are learning about a season, or working on seasonal themed work in your homeschool. There are tons of different writing prompts you can use with your children. I have narrowed it down by season to make it easier for you. These would be great to print out and keep in a binder for future use.
