Do your kids know the months of the year? We used to sit down every morning with the calendar and work on the months of the year, day of the week, and weather. It wasn’t always easy keeping them occupied and they certainly didn’t understand the concept of time.
But over the years they have remembered the silly months of the year song we would do and still refer to it when they have to remember them. And now they are teaching our younger two the song and it’s so fun to see the cycle continue.
And whether you take a more relaxed approach to your homeschool or your little one is gung-ho and ready to learn, adding in some fun calendar printables and activities to your routine is a good idea. You can always introduce it naturally and just talk to them about your plans in August, next month. Or for Christmas in December.
Using the months of the year naturally in conversation helps them make connections that will in turn help them comprehend the concept of time. Playing games, singing catchy songs, and little rhymes are also a great way to teach them the months of the year.
If you’re working on the months of the year in your homeschool this year, don’t miss these printables, games, songs, and activities.
