Do you have a child who likes to draw? Children who can draw amaze me. I watch them “see” something in their mind’s eye and then transfer it onto paper. It’s a skill I never even came close to getting the hang of.

I’ve seen so many pictures drawn by children decades younger than me that look far better than mine! But I’ve watched how much joy drawing brings these children, so I decided to create a types of clouds guided drawing activity that would let them shine.

In this guided drawing activity, a short paragraph is given on cirrus, cumulus, stratus, altocumulus, altostratus, cirrocumulus, cirrostratus, cumulonimbus, nimbostratus, and stratocumulus clouds.

Each paragraph is followed by a picture of the cloud with a grid overlay. Then the student is given two additional grids for their own drawing projects. One includes half of the cloud and requires them to draw the rest. The second grid gives them space to draw the entire cloud.

At the end of the unit are review questions about the ten types of clouds studied. It’s a fun way to combine science and art! Get this freebie by downloading it below!
