If you’re a Christian homeschooling family, chances are you’d like to include scripture copywork in your homeschool. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t take much to easily make this a part of your kids’ daily lessons.
With the practical tips I share below, you’ll be on your way to teaching your kids scripture they will remember and apply in life.
How to Easily Include Scripture Copywork in Your Homeschool
One of the best things I did for teaching scripture was to start using copywork. I used to look at it as just another subject that we’d need to check off the day’s to-do list, and that wasn’t making it very real. In fact, it became pretty mundane.
Once I changed my perspective and switched around our daily routine to include scripture copywork, my kids seemed to enjoy learning God’s word much better.
In addition to that, I took the following steps to make sure my kids were learning, retaining, and aiming to walk out scripture.
Create a plan to incorporate copywork into your homeschool day.
Nothing says chaos and inconsistency more than not having a plan. To easily include scripture copywork in your homeschool, I highly recommend creating a plan.
Using a resource like the Kids of Character Scripture Copywork pack will help you easily map out scriptures to do on a daily basis. Whether you plan your lessons weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, give each day a scripture or two as the primary focus.
Find age-appropriate copywork resources.
Whether you are homeschooling preschoolers or high schoolers, there are a variety of scripture copywork resources available. Littles who aren’t quite ready for writing can still get practice with coloring pages, while older kids can start with short versus and gradually working toward full passages.
You can also add in manuscript and cursive practice. Here are a few to look into adding to your lesson plans:
- Kids of Character Scripture Copywork (details at the bottom of this post)
- Verses from Proverbs 31
- John 14 Copywork
- Copywork from Matthew 7
- 1 Corinthians 13 Copywork
These free packs are the perfect starters to filling up your homeschooling calendar with reliable scripture copywork printables.
Make scripture real.
The Kids of Character Scripture Copywork pack has scripture to copy as well as reflection questions. By providing kids with an opportunity to think deeper about the scriptures they are reading, they’ll begin to piece together what it looks like in their personal life.
This also leads to great discussions and chats about what scriptures really mean. As Christian homeschoolers, we all share the common goal of helping our kids have their own relationship with Jesus and to see the need for depending on God’s word.
Conclusion
When adding or adjusting something in your homeschool schedule or routine, remember to keep it simple. In the case of adding scripture copywork, start small.
Younger kids may only get through a few words of a scripture, whereas an older kiddo could handle doing full scriptures. Use reflection questions as a way to discuss more about God’s word and give examples of what it would look like lived out loud.
In a world that is growing colder and less-loving by the day, it’s important to instill God’s principles into our kids. This starts with intentionally helping them learn the Word and how to apply it in life.
