The beginning of spring is heralded by the arrival of sweet, spring lambs. Related to antelopes and muskoxen, these mammals are ruminants with many having large, curling horns and are wonderful animals for kids to learn about, with Spring being the perfect time.

Did you know that there are about 74 million sheep in Australia, and that Australia export the wool to 52 countries? Or that sheep have a field of vision of around 300 degrees, meaning they can see behind themselves without having to turn their head.

Most people are aware of the domesticated sheep, though there are many other species of wild sheep. For the printables, activities and crafts listed below, we are going to concentrate on learning more about the domesticated sheep who provide us with meat, wool and products made with their milk.

Many of these activities can also be incorporated into a variety of lessons such as, when learning nursery rhymes Mary had a Little Lamb, Little Bo Peep and Baa Baa Black Sheep or the story of the Lion and the Lamb, The Lost Sheep or even about Jesus being the Good Shepherd.
