If you are teaching word problems in your homeschool right now, the title of this article may sound a little optimistic to you. Take heart, grab a cup of joe and have a read about this Notice, I Wonder free printable journal for helping kids understand big math ideas and solve problems.

Help Kids Math Sense of Math with Notice & Wonder Tasks

Word problems gave me such a hard time as a kid. Why was I having to read when we were doing math? Why? Why would someone who was riding in the plane want to know how many miles it would take to get there with the amount of fuel that was stored?

I mean, I trust that Delta already has these dimensions and formulas remedied and prepared for emergencies. No need for me to know this on a regular basis. Right?

Little did I know that understanding word problems was not only necessary for practical things like budgeting and financial accountability, but it also helped with critical thinking skills and troubleshooting practice that I totally needed/need as an adult. Go figure!

Word problems are either welcomed by minds that like to be challenged or they bring about anxiety. This resource has really helped me understand the issues with word problems in preparation for me when I attempt to tackle them with my son in homeschool.

This article mentioned the following statement which I am grateful can be the foundation for when we start tacking word problems in homeschool:

They need to learn to ask questions and explore for the sake of being curious, not just for the sake of getting a right answer.

Grab this simple “I Notice, I Wonder” printable journal to help your students record their thoughts while they are going through their word problems.
