Do bugs make you squeamish, or do your kids delight in creepy crawlies and playing in the dirt? Worms are a favorite among children who like to get their hands dirty. They may seem gross, but worms play an important part in healthy soil and kids actually love them. Your kids will have a lot of fun with these free printables and worksheets about earthworms.
If you have a garden I am sure your kids have come across worms. My kids actually enjoy digging their hands in the dirt to find them. They will dig them out of the ground just to move them into our garden because they know they are good for the soil. I have one daughter who loves creatures so much that she will cry if she finds one shriveled up on the sidewalk. She is always wanting to rescue them and move them back to the dirt.
Fun Facts About Worms:
- Worms do not have eyes, they can actually “see” light by the receptor cells on their skin.
- They are sensitive to light and need to be in cool dark soil.
- Their poop is called castings, because they cast it out of their body.
- Worms do not have lungs and they breathe through their skin
- They have FIVE hearts.
- The hairs on their body help them to move and cling to things. It is like velcro and why it can be hard to pull them out of the ground.
