Many of the leaves we encounter in our everyday lives are quite small (though some tropical varieties grow large enough to be used to build shelters!). Their size doesn’t stop them from performing incredible process including photosynthesis and transpiration, though.

And did you know that there are compound leaves, simple leaves, palmate leaves, parallel leaves, and pinnate leaves to study? Not only that, but leaves come in various shapes such as heart-shaped, lanceolate, lobed, sinuate, and triangular.

They can include pigments such as chlorophyll, xanthophyll, carotene, and anthocyanins.

Plus, leaves can be made of many parts such as the blade, apex, margin, midrib, veins, petiole, stipule, and more.
