What is the official list of books of the Bible called?
The official books of the Bible are called the Canon of Scripture. According to the Oxford Dictionary, canon means a collection or list of sacred books accepted as genuine.
Are the books in the Bible in chronological order?
The books of the Bible are not in chronological order, however if you’d like to read them like that, a Chronological Study Bible is really nice to have in your collection.
What’s the shortest book of the Bible?
The shortest book in the Bible is the book of Obadiah, with a single chapter and only 27 verses.
What’s the longest book of the Bible?
While Psalm 119 is the longest chapter of the Bible, you may be surprised to hear that the book of Psalms is not the longest book of the Bible. I found this post on the longest book in the Bible helpful in understanding why.

Free Books of the Bible List Printable
This set of Free Books of the Bible Fact Cards and Cheat Sheets gives your students a handy way to learn and review the:
- Hebrew name for each book
- author
- date written
- section of the Bible
- original audience
- common abbreviation
Let’s look at Genesis, for example. In Hebrew, it is B’resheet. It was written by Moses probably around 1500 B.C. It’s part of the Pentateuch and was first written for the Israelites. We often abbreviate it “Ge.”
