Basic Parts of a Flower

• Sepal: The outer leaf-like parts of the flower are called the sepal. These outer parts enclose developing buds and protects the petals when the flower closes.
• Petal: The colorful parts of a flower that make the flower beautiful. They vary in color and shape. Their colorful beauty and designs work to attract pollinators.
• Stamen: The stamen supports the anther and is the pollen producing part of a flower.
• Anther: The anther is the part of the stamen where pollen is produced.
• Pistil: The pistil is comprised of the stigma, style, and ovary. This is the female reproductive part od a flower.
• Stigma: The part of the pistil where pollen is made is the stigma.
• Ovary: The part of the pistil where ovules are produced is called the ovary. Ovules are organs that form the seeds of flowering plants.

• Filament – The filament supports the anther in the male portion of the flower.
• Bract – The bract protects the flower from insects and other environmental threats.
• Peduncle – The peduncle is the stalk of a flower.
