Why do states have their own flags?

I think the answer here is quite simple. State flags of America have their own flag because… of tradition.

Flags are symbolic of what a state identifies itself with. The people in the state can identify themselves with the states and what is commonly most identifiable about it.

The United States of America isn’t the only country whose states or provinces have their own flags. The Canadian provinces have their own flags, The different states in India, Australia, Germany, Malaysia, and more countries have their own flags. It is the norm; it is tradition.

What is a state’s flag used for?

A state flag is designate (even restricted) by law and custom/tradition. It represents a state to show its unique traits and what makes it different or distinguishable from all the other states. Residents of that state are proud of the things that make it unique from others.

How do you memorize state flags?

It isn’t absolutely essential that kids memorize each state flag. I think it’s more important for them to memorize country flags. However, that is just my opinion.
