I will be the first to admit that I had no idea we could do so many different things with flashlights. You may be just as surprised as me to know that flashlights aren’t just for blackouts. Check out these activities, crafts, and games you can play with a flashlight for education and fun.

Looking at different events that come around in December, I happened to see one that stuck out. There is literally a day for everything, and December 21st happens to be National Flashlight Day. Flashlights!

Crafts and Games You Can Play With A Flashlight

Before I found out about National Flashlight Day, all I knew was that flashlights were super important to my family and me. I live on an island prone to a natural disaster. Actually, according to the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), we are the second most at-risk country in the world facing constant threats of earthquakes, tsunamis, volcano eruptions, tropical cyclones, and other related climatic hazards.

I bring this up because last year, we made it through a Category 4-5 Cyclone, and if it weren’t for flashlights, our nights would have been extremely hard. We were so grateful that we had reserve flashlights available. The extra supplies allowed us to lend some flashlights to our friends. Many people quickly learned that candles run out quickly.

In other words, please take it as someone who has been through 6 weeks of no electricity, keep extra batteries and flashlights handy in several rooms of your home. It is beneficial to stay prepared. Therefore, before we move on to awesome flashlight activities, remember to keep your flashlights, and batteries for them handy.

Now, let’s get to the fun stuff.

Flashlights can be used to do so many educational activities. I had no idea just how many ways our homeschools could utilize them.

In 1899, the flashlight was invented as dry cell, and miniature incandescent electric light bulbs made the first battery-powered flashlights possible. Today flashlights can help us in the most dangerous and worrisome situations. Make fun use out of those flashlights for activities, crafts, and games in your homeschool for creative learning fun.
