Origin of the word “dragon”

To find the origin of the word dragon, you need to go all the way back to the Ancient Greek word, drákōn meaning “serpent, giant seafish”. That led to the Latin word, draconem meaning “huge serpent, dragon”, which led to the Old French dragon, which eventually entered the English language in the 13th century as dragon. Even though dragons appear in a variety of cultures around the world, the exact origin is still debated. (Wikipedia)

Dragons in the Bible

In Ancient times, the word dragon referred to a serpent that had long range eye sight, being able to see their prey from far away. The Bible talks about a great serpent, or dragon, throughout Revelation. The dragon described in Revelation is most likely the huge serpent, also referred to in Genesis 3:3, and another name for Satan.
