Watching the Olympic Winter Games
I have fond memories of watching the Olympics each year with my family. I have now passed that down to our children. The Olympic winter games are fascinating for my children because we have never lived where it snows. They aren’t very familiar with winter sports for this reason.
They can’t seem to fathom performing such hard sports in freezing temperatures and snow. It is definitely so much fun to watch and cheer on the best athletes that can do their sport well in such extreme temperatures.
We enjoy watching the winter Olympic games together. It is a lot of fun to keep track of how many gold medals that are won. The kids like to watch the Olympic medals count for the different countries that are participating. It is a great way to spend some family time together.
Winter Olympic History
The first winter Olympics games were held in the French Alps in Chamonix, France in 1924. People were thrilled at the sports they saw in such a winter wonderland. It first started off with 6 sporting events and now has 15 sports for an Olympic athlete to compete in.
The games have changed throughout the years with different sports being added, taken away and added again.
How often are the Winter Olympics?
The winter Olympics are held every four years just like summer. Some people get confused and think they are every two years. That is because the summer Olympics and winter Olympics alternate every two years in that four year time period. They are both held in alternating even numbered years.
Where is 2022 Winter Olympics Being Held?
The 2022 Winter Olympic games will be held in Beijing, China. They will begin on February 4th and end on February 20th. You can follow along with updates and more details at the official Beijing 2022 Olympics website.
