What was the structure of the Tabernacle?

The Tabernacle was constructed like the typical traditional structures of the time. Acacia wood was one of the only materials available to the Israelites, so the tabernacle was constructed with it.

The Tabernacle was made up of three different parts. These three different parts have objects that symbolize man and its different functions.

  1. The Outer Court of the Tabernacle symbolized the body.
  2. The Holy Place represented the soul.
  3. The Holy of Holies symbolized the spirit.

What are the features of the tabernacle?

The inside of the tabernacle had two different rooms.

The holy place (outer chamber room) and the most holy place  (inner shrine room), the Holy of Holies. The holy place contained a table where the bread of the Presence (shewbread) was placed, the altar of incense, and the seven-branched candelabrum/lampstand (menorah).

Where can I see a replica of the Tabernacle?

An exact replica of the original Tabernacle was constructed in Murrieta, California. Inside that replica lies the Menorah, incense, and the table of the shewbread just like the original. The Ark of the Covenant was placed inside this replica.

Your child can also make their own tabernacle as detailed as they want. They can embellish the brazen altar, place rubber figures around the whole tabernacle, color the bronze altar, with a bronze laver, or place glitter on the top of the ark of the covenant.

The Tabernacle Was Portable

The people of Israel built the Tabernacle (Hebrew Mishkan, dwelling) to have a focal point of worship and religious activity for the Hebrew Tribes, as instructed by the Lord to Moses. The Tabernacle was made portable so they could move it from place to place and was a precursor to the temple.

Once a year, the high priest entered the Holy of Holies in order to be in the very presence of God that was on the Ark of the Covenant. According to Leviticus 16, this was called the Day of Atonement.

Significance in the New Testament

Kids will be interested to know that the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies on the tabernacle were extremely significant as told in the New Testament. When Jesus Christ was crucified, the veil between these separate rooms was ripped from top to bottom (Matthew 27:51).

From the Old Testament to the New Testament, the plan for Jesus Christ was woven throughout even in the connection between the Tabernacle that indwelt God’s power to the day Jesus Christ atoned for our sins.

That is the significance of your child making and understanding the tabernacle model project.
