“The earliest practice of writing proper for children of seven or eight should be, not letter writing or dictation, but transcription (copywork) a slow and beautiful work.”
Copywork places an emphasis on quality. It should be done with great care and with the neatest handwriting. It can seem tedious at first, but you will see so much improvement in your children’s handwriting when they continue to practice it on a daily basis. Copying scriptures, quotes from books or famous authors and leaders is a good place to start.
There are so many resources available for copywork! I like to find copywork that naturally goes with what we are studying. If you are using any Charlotte Mason type of curriculum, the copywork is usually built right into the curriculum. Sometimes you just want some nice “busy work” for your children and copywork is great for that as well. I like to keep a file folder full of different copywork pages to hand to my children if we need to be doing school out and about or for specific themes we are studying.
