What are reading passports?

Reading passports serve as visual encouragement for students to read in fun and engaging ways. The passport is essentially an alternative way of viewing a book log for students to use in tracking the number of books they read.

Normally, students fill up the chart with stamps as they complete a book. In the reading passports, students can rate the books they read, log in book genres, and be able to write about their favorite parts of the book.

Why should homeschoolers use reading passports?

In public school, a list of books is set to be read by a whole class. Students don’t really get a choice of what they need to read.

In our homeschools, thankfully, we are able to narrow down our child’s reading selections to their needs and their interests. Reading passports provide a sort of motivation for your students, from first grade through elementary age to be engaged in what they are reading.

The passports encourage not just reading, but reading different topics, and reading different types of books. From their passport assignments, students can fill up the passport blank pages with their opinions on the books and even rate the books against each other.

Explore these reading passport templates, to start their reading journey in a fun way or to encourage them to read even more.
