I have had some mysterious health conditions that are autoimmune at the core for over 30 years. It’s nothing new, but over the course of the last 10 years it really has taken a toll on my body. I radically changed my diet and was able to kick my migraines to the curb, but other issues persisted. So we made many changes.
Changing our cookware was one of them. Learning how to make eggs on a stainless steel pan was another.
When you use nonstick pots and pans to cook with, you could be putting your family in danger. Nonstick often contains a chemical called perfluorooctanoic acid, also known as PFOA or C8. According to the American Cancer Society, “PFOA has the potential to be a health concern because it can stay in the environment and in the human body for long periods of time. Studies have found that it is present worldwide at very low levels in just about everyone’s blood.” Animal studies have also presented a link between PFOA exposure and cancer development.
Many years ago we ditched our teflon-coated pans and skillets and switched to “non-stick” ceramic pans like this one. I really wanted to love them, and sometimes the first couple of weeks they worked great. We didn’t purchase cheap ceramic coated pans mind you, most were around $40-$50 each.
After using them for their brief honeymoon period they all started to look like this (yes, they are clean!):
My husband does a lot of the cooking for our family, he is rather good at it and uses his artistic abilities to make wonderful works of art on a plate. He tends to cook at a medium-high heat for good searing and oftentimes these pans just don’t hold up. We only use healthy fats to cook with (real butter, coconut oil, or evoo) and we handwash our pots and pans.
We switched to a stainless steel Cuisinart pan set in 2013 and eventually phased out our use of the ceramic coated pans until a recent purchase had me trying a new one. I haven’t mastered making perfect grain-free pancakes in a stainless steel pan, so I bought an expensive ceramic coated pan at Kohls that had a lot of empty promises. $55 later I realized it too had let me down – and yes, I know how to make pancakes!
We have used Mealthy products before – the CrispLid is our new favorite kitchen gadget that makes our pressure cooker an air fryer, so when they offered to send me the Mealthy StainlessSteel Frying Pan, I jumped on it, totally expecting some amazing things from it.
I was provided a free product in return for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed herein are my own and not influenced by the developing company and/or its affiliates in any way.
We have had it for about one week now and this is not your typical 10-inch frying pan. I will probably have to purchase another one because I am tired of washing it out several times a day so we can re-use it!
The circumference at the bottom is 10 inches, but it is wider as it goes up and higher too, meaning you can cook more things in it than a traditional 10-inch skillet. I can actually place my other 10-inch skillet inside of this one (and they are supposed to be the same size!). Keep in mind because of the handles, the smaller one is not even flat on the Mealthy StainlessSteel Frying Pan.
The Mealthy StainlessSteel Frying Pan is HEAVY. This thing is of serious high quality – if we have an intruder…
In all honesty, is this pan better than our Cuisinart stainless steel pans?
I have to say YES, and my husband agrees! Since we have had this pan, I don’t think he has used anything else to cook with. He has made me the most amazing omelette in it AND IT DIDN’T STICK!
I will be watching for Mealthy to come out with some more pans in different sizes, that is for sure. I also hope that they start selling a compatible lid to use with it it since my 10-inch skillet lids are too small for it.
And in case you are wondering like I was, Mealthy is a combination of the words ‘meal’ and ‘healthy’ and is pronounced MEAL-thee.
That makes a lot more sense than how I was pronouncing it in my head!
