We are exploring the 4 different acts that catapulted a revolt from the American colonists from Britain. Britain certainly passed laws that placed a huge burden on the colonists and there was so much they could take. The next law we will take a look at as a part of this series is The Quartering Act. In this series, we are also exploring The Sugar Tax and The Currency Act.

The third act we are discussing is The Quartering Act.
Britain had sent more British troops to colonial North America after the French and Indian War to protect the colonies against any future threats from the remaining French and Indians. The Quartering Act was passed in March 24, 1765. This act forced the American colonists to house and feed these British soldiers who were serving in America. The colonists were ordered to provide for the basic needs of the soldiers and to provide them with bedding, cooking utensils, firewood, candles and beer!
The colonists were angered that they were forced to open their homes to these soldiers with no compensation for it. They were being taxed to pay for the provisions and barracks for the army that they thought was unnecessary during peacetime and an army that they feared might be used against them. This act only made the tension between the British and the colonists even worse, and was yet another springboard to the Revolutionary War.
