This is our sixth post in our Hymn Study Series:
I shared in my first post in this series how Carrie and I were teaching hymn study to middle schoolers in a Charlotte Mason Style co-op. This was the first time we had both ever done a hymn study, yet alone teach it. The kids journaled and wrote about what they learned and filled in the biography of the author while we usually read the story of the hymn out loud. Then we all listened to the hymn while they finished their papers.
This particular hymn….WOW. Carrie was reading out loud the story of his life and his family and we couldn’t even look at each other we we both had tears running down our faces! Even the middle schoolers we were teaching were touched and had a hard time filling in their notebooking pages. So heartbreaking. This story really changed my outlook on so many things. I won’t give the story away, please read it yourself, but all that man went through! Just to have that peace in your soul, even through heartbreak, that God is God and to have that faith that when the storms come He will carry you through it and there will be a steady calm in the storm. It isn’t always easy, but it is so life changing to have that comfort and peace.
