My kids love animals and habitats. We love nature around here and what better way to study it by doing studies on a particular region, habitat and area? We used to live in Arizona, beautiful, but oh so hot! I still miss the lovely purple, pink and red skies at sunset.

Let’s start our series off by learning about the Desert Habitat!

American Museum of Natural History has a printable activity to make your own Ecosystem Diorama. The second one on the page is a link for instruction on how to print and create your own Giant Cactus Forest. It’s pretty neat!

Exploring Nature.org has an entire section on Desert Animals. You just click on the name of the animal you want to learn about and there is a photo of the animal, classification, diet, habitat, body traits and more. There are even animal body diagrams and coloring sheets to print out.

ABC Teach.com has an entire section on Desert Habitats with FREE desert themed worksheets, printables, word searches, early readers and animal and plant worksheets!

Desert USA is a website full of so much information on deserts! You could create so many different studies and use this website for the majority of your research. There is information on deserts of the USA and the World along with habitats, flowers, animals, peoples of the desert and much more!

We love to use Field Guides during our nature studies. Even if we don’t live in that area, the kids still love to look at the pictures and try to learn to identify the plants, and animals and creatures that live in the area they are studying.
