It is an election year, and the election is only a couple of weeks away. This is a very pivotal time for our nation in the year 2020. It is more important now, more than ever, to teach our children about the U.S. government and how it works.
With every election, comes changes. We need to equip our children with the knowledge to help them make informed decisions when they are older and able to vote. There are many college students and adults that don’t understand how the government works. They don’t have a working knowledge of how laws are made. Many people don’t notice how the constitution is constantly challenged and how things can quickly change.
It seems as if basic government and civics skills are not taught in the younger ages. They are normally only taught for one semester in high school. You don’t have to wait until the high school years to teach your children about government. You can do some basic unit studies about it, or you can incorporate it into your American History studies.
Recommended Resource: U.S. Government Anchor Charts & Workbook
Understanding how the government is designed to work is a critical part of learning to be a good citizen and how to vote responsibly. This U.S. Government Anchor Charts & Workbook takes a closer look at the three branches of government as well as many of the departments and agencies that impact our daily lives.
