I am a fairly laid back homeschooler in that we do not follow one method of study, but probably relate most closely with unschoolers. However, I love taking cues from my kids and following down rabbit holes of exploration and imagination.

I do not remember a lot of information I supposedly learned in my elementary years and I don’t want my children to be the same way. I want them to learn about what interests them for however long it interests them, hopefully ensuring they will remember more than I did.

Free Printables & Resources for Colonial America

However, with this method of study, it often means we spend anywhere from several weeks to months on a specific topic. History is one of those subjects we study based on what interests my children. Many times these topics come about from current events and how we, as a country, “got here”.

Recently my children have been asking more and more about the colonial times. They loved learning about the Pilgrims and their journey to America back at Thanksgiving and even though I thought we finished studying them, they continue to ask more questions. So I decided maybe we needed some more printables and activities to keep learning a little while longer!
