Spring is here! This is one of my favorite seasons because of new growth, hope and new life. The beauty of flowers and bright happy colors pop up everywhere in nature. This is the perfect time to incorporate a unit study in your homeschool to learn about flowers.

Spring weather is the best. It is the perfect time to get outside and breathe in the fresh air. If you live in the snow, you are happy for warmer weather. If you live where it’s hot, you are happy to take advantage of the cool air before it is too hot to be outside! We take lots of nature walks in the spring time.

We stay outside longer, and spend more time working in the gardens. I have always had a vegetable garden in our home, and even a small butterfly garden. One thing that I have been wanting to do more of is to plant flowers and start different flowers from seeds.

Flowers are fascinating things. I thought it would be fun to do a small science/nature unit study on flowers while we start our own flowers from seed to plant in our gardens this year.

With the beautiful weather comes lots of outdoor field trips. We enjoy taking field trips in the spring while everything is blooming and the weather is nice. Do you have a zoo or local botanical gardens? Spring is the best time to visit these places and see everything in different stages of blooming. You can even go on a scavenger hunt with your kids to identify the different flowers you have been learning about at home.
