This FREE Modern History Activities & Notebooking: 1950s unit focuses on five key events from the decade and helps students dig into each one through puzzles and activities. Students will learn about:

  • the beginning of the Korean War (1950)
  • United States Presidential Election of 1952
  • Nikita Khrushchev becomes head of the Communist Party in the Soviet Union (1953)
  • the Supreme Court rules in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka (1954)
  • the Montgomery Bus Boycott (1955)

The activities in this unit include puzzles such as fill-ins with word banks and decoding. Notebooking questions follow each puzzle to prompt your students to do independent research and learn more about the events they’ve studied. A crossword puzzle at the end asks questions about all five events covered, and an answer key is included.
