Understanding how scientists classify animals is an important part of science for students. This FREE Animal Families Notebook Research Journal can help them investigate and learn about just 50 of the many animal families scientists have to pick from.

It can be fascinating seeing how some animals can be grouped together. For example, your students probably know that dogs and wolves share things in common, but antelope, cattle, and bison? Those animals don’t naturally hang out together in my mind.

This FREE Animal Families Notebook Research Journal challenges students to learn about fifty different animal families and some of the animals included in each. For each animal family, they can learn:

  • what order each family is part of
  • some of the genera included in this family
  • if the animals in the family are mostly carnivores, herbivores, or omnivores
  • what parts of the world members of the family are found in
  • what some of the common animals in this family are

They’ll also have a chance to draw or cut and paste a picture of one animal from each family in their notebook.
