“Of all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest are these, ‘it might have been.’”
These words were penned by famous American author John Greenleaf Whittier who was born December 17, 1807. He was born to Quaker farmers in Massachusetts and grew up very differently than many of the authors of his day. He did not have the opportunity for a long and formal education but taught himself by studying authors such as Robert Burns.
During his life he grew to become one of the most widely respected authors in both America and England.
