Marie Curie was born in Warsaw on November 7, 1867. She left Warsaw, Poland when it was dominated by Russia and moved to France, where she continued her scientific studies. Enjoy these FREE Printables, Unit Studies, and Hands-On Activities about the life and work of famous inventor Marie Curie.

If you enjoy unit studies in your homeschool you will love this series on famous inventors. Inventions are fascinating, and inventors are so much fun to learn about. It is a great conversation when you talk to your kids about the inventions that were created and what our world would be without these things. Makes for a great history lesson and a lesson on appreciating what we have!

In this series I will be highlighting some well known inventors with free printables, unit studies and hands-on activities that pertain to the particular invention the inventor created. Your kids will love learning about these famous inventors and their inventions that have made a huge impact on how we live our lives today!

This week we are learning about Marie Curie.

Marie Curie discovered two new chemical elements – radium and polonium. She carried out the first research into the treatment of tumors with radiation, and she was the founder of the Curie Institutes. She is the only person who has ever won Nobel Prizes in both physics and chemistry.

Together with her husband, she was awarded half of the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1903, for their study into the spontaneous radiation discovered by Becquerel, who was awarded the other half of the Prize. In 1911, she received a second Nobel Prize in Chemistry, in recognition of her work in radioactivity.
