Johann Sebastian Bach is one of the greatest composers in history. We’ve rounded up free worksheets, resources, and ideas to help you form your own Bach Composer Study in your homeschool.

One of my favorite things about homeschooling is being able to incorporate the fine arts into our home. Studying about specific composers and listening to their music throughout the day has been such a fun and relaxing time in our homeschool. I thought it would be fun to do a series on some favorite composers!
What is a Composer?
A composer can be defined as “one who forms by putting together.” In the case of musical composers, the composer puts notes and instruments together to create something new and beautiful.
How to Create a Bach Composer Study
Here is how I like to create any music composer unit study:
- Pick a composer to study
- Read great books about him from the library or these Bach books on Amazon
- Listen to the music often!
- Watch videos on free on the internet
- I also like to incorporate coloring sheets, worksheets and even notebooking pages while they are listening to music.
The Charlotte Mason way of composer study is usually to take an entire term to study one composer. That would be one composer every 9-12 weeks. I prefer to do one a month or one every 6 weeks, that’s just my preference.
Free Resources to Study Bach
Below is a list of worksheets, resources and ideas for you to use to create your own Bach Composer Study.
Free Music Response Worksheets
One of the most critical steps of a composer study is to actually listen to the compositions he created. We also recommend having your homeschool students take the time to reflect on how the music made them feel. That reflection time will allow them to discover music they can enjoy for a lifetime.
