Life can get so busy during the holiday season, but it’s the perfect time to focus on the many blessings in our life. Make Thanksgiving memorable for your family by focusing on three things: developing a spirit of gratitude, making memories, and caring for others.
Develop a Spirit of Gratitude
Are you intentional about teaching your kids about gratitude? It’s so important to do anytime of year, but especially around the Thanksgiving season. These family activities can help:
Scripture
The Bible reminds us over and over to give thanks. Read a different verse about Thanksgiving each day. Then write it down and hide it somewhere for your family to find.
Thankful Tree
Make a thankful tree from this Bible study and have everyone in your family add something they are thankful for each day. Your family will enjoy watching the tree grow throughout the month and reading what everyone is thankful for.
Conversation Starters
Grow closer as a family and practice having a thankful heart with gratitude prompts from the Gratitude Bible Study For Kids. Just read one during dinner each night and enjoy the discussion that will follow.
Give Thanks Banner
Remind your family to give thanks to the Lord with a beautiful printable “Give Thanks” banner.
Make Memories
Holidays are a time that we naturally make precious family memories. Here are a few ways you can make even more memories throughout the month:
Cook
Show your children how to make a special family recipe. Encourage them to write it on a recipe card and store it somewhere special for the future.
Make Centerpieces
Get creative and make centerpieces for your Thanksgiving table. Set out supplies or find an idea on Pinterest for your family to recreate.
Grateful Video
Record each family member sharing things they are grateful for. You’ll treasure looking back on what was meaningful to your family and seeing how everyone has changed over the years.
Care for Others
One of the beautiful things about the season of Thanksgiving is that it causes us to look beyond ourselves. Here are a few ways your family can care for others this month:
Deliver a Meal
Do you know a family in need? Gather supplies to make a Thanksgiving basket for them. You could even team up with other families and make multiple baskets to deliver to families in need.
Surprise Your Friends
Write things you are thankful for about your friends on paper turkeys. Then sneak over to their home and tape them to their windows and door. Your family will have a blast trying to stay unnoticed on this secret mission and your friends will love the surprise.
Thankful Notes
Don’t forget to share with those closest to you why you are so thankful they are in your life. Place the notes somewhere they’ll find them during their day.
I hope you are encouraged to make Thanksgiving memorable for your family with these ideas!
