The season of harvest and thanksgiving is such a beautiful time to remember our attitude of thankfulness to the Lord.

We recognize that we don’t have what we have or experience what we’re experiencing unless it was the Lord’s doing.

That said, as Christians we don’t only have a response of thankfulness because things are well and good, but we choose it as an attitude no matter what’s going on in our lives or surrounding our lives.

But perhaps you’re thinking the same thing I have:

  • Why do we choose thankfulness?
  • Why is this attitude or posture so important?
  • Why would we be thankful during a difficult time that we’re facing?
  • Shouldn’t we be thankful to God when we’re victorious or experiencing good things?

Although it’s good to respond with gratitude to the Lord for the good things you’re experiencing, we choose thankfulness as a way of life.

You see, Jesus has already won the victory over sin and death. There’s nothing that can separate you from God’s love and so we choose thankfulness not for difficult times but in them because the One who lives inside of us never leaves us and never forsakes. Thankfulness is then an act of faith and trust in the Lord.

So as Thanksgiving approaches, we remind ourselves about an attitude of gratitude that’s not just for this season, but for every day.

What a wonderful time to take in the Word of God as it pertains to thankfulness reminding ourselves of God’s faithfulness, His goodness and His mercy.

ACTION: Each day leading up to Thanksgiving, proclaim a scripture or write it out to remind you and your family of the attitude of thankfulness.
