Kids are often excited by special occasions and events.
We have a great opportunity to invest in our kids as these special occasions on the calendar like Valentine’s Day come up and with a countdown, you can make it fun!
Though Valentine’s Day celebrates love by this world’s way of doing things, we can instead celebrate the One who is Love by focusing on Him and His Word.
1 John 4:18 NKJV says,
God is love.
Without God being Love itself, we wouldn’t know love.
Love is why we are loved by God first, able to love Him back and love others. In fact love is THE greatest commandment.
Mark 12:30-31 NKJV says,
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
We have an opportunity during this season. We can remind ourselves and our kids Who love is and what love does by digging into Bible studies like this.
Encountering God personally, discovering Him and learning about Him causes a ripple effect. We begin to see through the eyes of love and find that everything we do comes out of a motivation of love rather than selfishness.
With love then being our motivator, we have an opportunity to witness of God’s love for others.
We can share that God loves them in word and in deed:
- We can treat each other with kindness and generosity considering others first.
- We can feed those who are hungry and clothe those who need something to wear.
- We can share simple Christian Valentine’s Day cards with others letting them know that God loves them.
