Archimedes was a scientist, inventor and is known as one of the most brilliant mathematicians in history. He invented mechanics and the hydrostatic principle. The Archimedes screw is a device for raising water that is still used in developing countries today. He discovered the laws of levers and pulleys which are the basis of all simple machines! Archimedes founded the center of gravity which is one of the most fundamental concepts of physics. 

He loved to do math. It was his favorite subject and math problems would consume him so much that he refused to eat until he got a problem correct. He gave the most precise answer to Pi. He calculated the area of ​​a parabola using the exhaustive method of math.

Archimedes Biography:

Archimedes was born in Sicily, Italy around the year 287 B.C. and died around 212 B.C. The exact dates, month and year, are not known because it was so ancient and before Christ’s birth. He lived to be around 75 years old.

Archimedes and “Eureka!”

Your kids are going to love hearing the story of Archimedes and how his phrase “Eureka!” became famous. He was hired by the king to determine if the crowns his royal crown maker was making ere made of 100 percent gold. Archimedes thought of the solution while in his bathtub. Rumor has it that he was so excited he figured out the answer that he jumped out of the tub and ran through the streets naked, shouting, “Eureka! Eureka!”
