My son is in 7th grade this year and working through Saxon Math 8/7 Pre-Algebra. He is currently working on Prime numbers and factoring and is having some trouble getting it to “click”. So I made this math packet to help give him some practice in a more hands-on way. This packet has factoring triangles in 3 different colors to use in building a factor tree. I made two worksheets to write out the factor trees created with the triangles. I printed mine back-to-back and then laminated it so he can use multiple times.

Copywork sheets are included to help remember the vocabulary terms and Prime Numbers. I will have him do these copywork sheets several times during our lesson on Prime Factorization and then a few more times later in the year as a review.

We do a lot of notebooking in our homeschool day and that includes math notebooking. I included a chart to complete and paste into your notebook or math journal that has a box for definitions and examples of each term used in factoring. In our notebook, we pasted the chart on one side and examples of factor trees on the other side. I also printed off a 100-count board from here and had him mark all the prime numbers from 1 – 100,  then we pasted that in our notebook as well.

For our math memory work each week, I made vocabulary cards to paste onto index cards and file into our memory box rotation. Once I cut and paste the definitions, I have him draw an example of each one on the card. This gives him a visual tool for remembering the terms.

Prime Factorization Math Packet includes:

9 pages of yellow triangles

2 pages of red triangles

1 page of blue triangles

3 pages of blank triangles (for adding your own numbers)

2 worksheets for writing down the factor trees

1 copywork page

1 notebooking page

6 memory cards
