My son is in 7th grade this year and working through Saxon Math 8/7 Pre-Algebra. He is currently working on prime numbers and factoring and is having some trouble getting it to “click”. So I made this math packet to help give him some practice in a more hands-on way.

Prime Factoring Triangles by sproutingtadpoles.com

Prime Number Factorization Printables

This packet has factoring triangles in 3 different colors to use in building a factor tree.

I made two worksheets to write out the prime number factor trees created with the triangles. I printed mine back-to-back and then laminated it so he can use multiple times.

Copywork sheets are included to help remember the vocabulary terms and prime numbers. I will have him do these copywork sheets several times during our lesson on prime number factorization and then a few more times later in the year as a review.

Add Prime Numbers in a Math Journal

We do a lot of notebooking in our homeschool day and that includes math notebooking.

I included a chart to complete and paste into your notebook or math journal that has a box for definitions and examples of each term used in factoring. In our notebook, we pasted the chart on one side and examples of factor trees on the other side.

I also printed off a 100-count board from the internet and had him mark all the prime numbers from 1 – 100,  then we pasted that in our notebook as well.

If you would like a math journal, with over 40 challenges to help upper elementary and/or middle school students then be sure to check out our free option. You can grab it here or using the link at the bottom of this post.

Prime Factorization Memory Work Practice

For our math memory work each week, I made vocabulary cards to paste onto index cards and file into our memory box rotation.

Once I cut and paste the definitions, I have him draw an example of each one on the card. This gives him a visual tool for remembering the terms.
