Every night my 8 year old and I pray that the Lord will help us to have kinder speech and a more respectful tone. I grew up in the North in a female-dominant family where most of the women speak terribly to their husbands. Not necessarily the WORDS that they use, but the TONE of their voice. I never realized it until I went back to visit several years ago, that’s when I heard it with my own ears. I realized that was what my husband was talking about when he complained to me about my being grumpy.

poison tongue healing tongue a mini-study for the family on taming the tongue

Often when I speak to my husband I sound snappy and harsh – with none of that feeling behind my words. I now know it was most likely a learned trait from my growing up years. And let me tell you – it is SO hard to break this habit, but break it we must if we want to honor the Lord with our lips.

I asked Richele from TalkingMom2Mom.com if she could make us a mini-unit study we could offer our subscribers. After we gave away the FREE Character Bundle in September, I received dozens of emails thanking me from women sharing their testimonies about how they had the same struggles. So, apparently this is a MUCH needed study! Since homeschooling mamas are a frugal bunch, I didn’t want cost to deter you – so we are giving it to you for FREE!

If this is you too, then please grab this free mini-study – suitable for your entire family to use together! Our children (especially girls) learn from their moms. Are they learning to mimic your rude and snappy tone of voice, or are they learning how to speak with sweet speech?

I love this verse: The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.” Proverbs 16:21 (KJV)

It really is true in our homeschools, isn’t it? I know if I yell, get angry, or impatient then the tears flow and I just get more irritable…and then school stops because we are both too frustrated to continue. That is why Richele made this as a family study!
