National Georgia Day Ideas
Just like New Jersey, Georgia has an official day. National Georgia Day is celebrated on August 3rd each year. If you want to the mark the day, then here are some ideas to explore:
national Park Field Trips
The National Park Service has some amazing parks to visit as a field trip to learn more about the civil war famous Georgians. Here are 3 we recommend:
1. Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Park – Learn more about MLK, Jr, his birth home, his church and even earn a junior ranger badge while you are there. The Junior Ranger badge activity book is also available online if can’t there in person.
2. Jimmy Carter National Historic Park – Jimmy Carter was our 39th President. One way to make any historical person, including a former president, come more alive is to visit exhibits and places that tell their story. This park helps to do that for Jimmy Carter.
The Junior Ranger activity booklet is available in person if you visit but also available online as well.
3. Fort Pulaski National Monument – Who doesn’t like to explore a fort? This one is no different. A visit here will help kids learn more about the Civil War era as well as the technology that helped overcome the strength of a fort.
Check out the huge selection of pre-visit curriculum materials including scavenger hunts, timelines, worksheets and more here.
For those who can’t visit in person, the Junior Ranger program is available online as well as 20 minute video about the history of the fort.

Or for dessert, if you are really ambitious then whip up a peach cobbler.
